Real Estate taxes are assessed by the City Assessor’s Office. The City Treasurer is responsible for collection of Real Estate taxes in the City of Norfolk. City Council sets the due dates and sets the tax rates on a yearly basis when the City budget is finalized.
Taxes are collected on a Fiscal Year basis, which means the year starts on July 1st and ends June 30th. To pay taxes online, please visit our eBilling Portal. Taxes are collected on a quarterly basis as follows:
The Treasurer’s office has over 80,000 taxable parcels of land that are billed on a quarterly basis. Quarterly bills are mailed out at least 30 days prior to the due date. The City Treasurer also collects nuisance abatement liens, which are received from Neighborhood Quality with 30 days to pay.
